"WHEN IT COMES TO THE FUTURE OF DANCE, THE PROMISE DEFINITELY LIES WITH SOME OF THESE MAKERS"
"The choreographers of VIERxVIER 2024 were selected from more than eighty applications and followed a residency in Theater a/d Rijn. Four young choreographers show their short work with a focus on the target group of young people. The result is impressive. In four very different pieces, disciplines mix equally, just like the many dance styles.
In "peeling my purple onion", dancer and choreographer Amisha Kumra (as a dancer who recently graduated from Amsterdam University of Arts) works live with musician Ciro Goudsmit. She starts subdued with a movement idiom that mixes gesture and movement and combines fragments of several dance cultures. While Goudsmit samples and transforms his initially abstract soundscape into rhythmic live beat productions, Kumra releases emotionally charged dance sections, which she keeps layering with information. Indian dance, house dance and contemporary; in contact with her audience spread out in space, Kumra exploits everything her body has to offer".
